You guys won’t BELIEVE what I saw two days ago in Texas with my Grandmother, Chickie!
I saw something that won’t happen for another 105 years!
I saw the 2012 Venus Transit.
You might be asking, “What in the world is a transit?” Well, a transit is kind of like an eclipse, but a transit doesn’t take up as much space as an eclipse does(as you can see by the picture).
There was a man from the Fort Worth Astronomical Society that had set up a telescope he had since he was fourteen. He had attached a plastic guzzle-like thing with a clasp to his telescope and clipped two pieces of Hobby Lobby plywood with vellum in the middle of the two pieces onto the guzzle. Since he had it set up in this fashion, instead of looking into the telescope, all you had to do was simply glance where he had attached his contraption onto his telescope and see the sun!
I was simply mesmerized, because everyday, with your sun glasses on, you look up at this light in the sky, rays all around it. But when you saw the sun with this amazing telescope, you could see the sun with some sunspots, then you saw this distinctive little dot.
I couldn’t believe I was seeing a planet! I know I couldn’t see Venus’ details, but I saw something that I felt was very important to me in some way! I saw the Venus transit! I have no idea why I feel this happy… maybe because I know that this event won’t happen for another 105 years!
I wasn’t alone, though, to see this awesome event. I was with Chickie, her friend(who I think is hilarious), Sharol, and A LOT of other people that wanted to see the magic!
I hope you guys leave comments and mention some unusual space-related events that you have seen!
Thanks for reading!
