I woke up. A cave… no… My nightmares, they were true…
My name is Hannah Brown. I’m a sophomore in high school. Five days ago it had all began. My home, my family, and my hope had all disappeared.
It started August 4. I was happy. I sat on my front porch with my boyfriend Jason. We had been together since January third (my birthday), and we still visit each other every day. He had just kissed me good night. He got up to go get something from his car. His car is so awesome. It’s an old beat up pickup truck that only has room for two. Yeah, in case you couldn’t tell, I’m a country girl. I live out in the middle of nowhere and love it!
Jason got back from his truck. He handed me a beautiful necklace. It was a large seashell from a beach in Florida somewhere. He smiled, gave me on last hug, hopped in his truck and drove off.
I sat there watching until the cloud of dust from the dirt road faded into the distance. I got up and walked into the forest to meet my best friend, Catherine, but her she prefers to be call Cat for some reason. I ran through the woods. I couldn’t afford to be late to our meeting place again. I had been late the past three nights. I reached it in about two minutes of sprinting. I glanced at a clock running on batteries that we had set up. I was five minutes early.
I pulled out a pencil and sketchbook. I love doodling, even though I am absolutely terrible at it. I was in the process of drawing a horse, when I saw Cat walking through the trees toward me. I glanced at the clock. She was two minutes late. I teased her about being late today. She laughed and sat down next to me. We talk about homework and her boyfriend Leo for a while. Then the conversation turned to Jason. It didn’t last long. I mentioned the possibility of someone finding our hideout. She laughed and so did I. The thought of someone finding our secrets was so unlikely, I would never happen
I was secretly thinking of Jason and I’s secret hideout. I hadn’t ever told Cat about it. It was that secret. Jason and I were the only ones who knew it even existed. After that good of a laugh, Cat and I decided we should end tonight on a good note. We took off in different directions through the trees.
I reached home in about two minutes. I went around and did my chores. I had put them off when Jason had showed up. He had offered to help, but instead, we had just sat on the porch. When I finished my chores, I sat on the porch and finished my drawing of the horse that I had been working on when Cat had showed up. I held it up. It was one of my better drawings.
I went inside the house and headed up to my room in the attic, which I share with my two sisters. My three brothers sleep in the basement. I tacked the picture to a bulletin board I have. On it were also pictures of cats, dogs, plants, bugs, and tons of chickens. Chickens are incredibly fun to draw, not kidding! This was the first horse I had ever drawn.
I glanced at the clock. It was only 9:15 p.m. I went and fed my kitten. Her name is Jackie and she is like a white puff ball. After that, I sat on my bed for a little while, then headed downstairs to the kitchen to find my mom. She was helping my youngest brother, John, learn to write for Kindergarten next year. She smiled at me and pointed with her head toward the refrigerator. I got a sandwich and quickly ate it. Then I went back up to my room and fell asleep.
In the morning, I got up, took a shower, got dressed, and finished my chores before 6:00 am. I jotted down a note to my mom, telling her that I was going to look for wild berries out in the forest and would be back before 7:00. I went out to the forest. After making sure no one was around, I went quietly between the trees. I stopped at an oak tree. At the top is a tree house Jason and I built for a “secret hideout” where we could “get away from the worries of the world”. In it, there were a TV that runs on double A batteries, a mini library, and my secret stash of candy. I climbed up the ladder and saw something I hadn’t ever seen in my tree house
There was a giant bull’s eye on the wall, with a cup full of darts next to it on the floor. I picked up the cup and inspected the darts. They seemed normal. I grabbed one and threw it at the target. It landed in the dead center. That couldn’t be right, I was usually TERRIBLE at this game. I threw another one. It hit the same exact spot and it split the previous dart in two.
I stepped forward, and touched the target, right where the arrows were. I suddenly got extremely dizzy. I fell to the floor as my vision began to blur. I saw two men, one looked about 55 with a fuzzy gray beard and short gray hair. The other looked about 20 with brown hair, almost to his shoulders. They looked strangely familiar, but my vision was too fuzzy to be sure. The last thing I saw was them standing over me, then, I passed out. Heroic wasn’t I?
Please comment and tell me how it is so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!
